Flashes in the Dark: Surrogate Fruit

With an awesome introduction by editor, Lori Titus, "Even the most pure of intentions can bring the most tragic of results..... read Angel Zapata's latest offering on Flashes in the Dark."

Flashes in the Dark: Surrogate Fruit

Thanks, Lori!

  1. This is so enchanting - for all the wrong reasons. The sparklely fruit and friendship graze over the selfishness of the, ahem, hags. I’m so glad this doesn’t happen in real life. The title is great and this is my favorite sentence.

    “We’re not all skin-pocked hags”

This story 'horrifies' me more than any dagger slashing monkey - can we spell W I N N E R.

  2. Left a comment over at Flashes. I'll think twice about buying melons from strange markets in the future. But do you think there's a risk of dark magic at Tesco?

  3. Loved the story, Angel. Clever as always. I would like to ask you to take a moment and look at the uppermost post on my blog. It calls for writers interested in creating something for a very special anthology. Angel, I wanted to ask you personally, because the editor asked me to pass it on to the best writers i know. This goes for anyone else reading this, if you want to take a shot. I'm at visionprimordial.blogspot.com. Don't worry about the what the deadline says. It's been extended a bit.

  4. Great story. The end was, of course, interesting, but I also loved the way you opened it so unexpectedly with the "other side" of being a witch.
